What is counselling?

It is a type of talking therapy, that involves a trained counsellor listening to you in a safe and confidential setting, from an impartial perspective to allow your thoughts and feelings to be respectfully heard.

The experience of being fully listened to may feel new and yet the simple act of talking with a counsellor can facilitate emotional change and help you find ways to deal with emotional issues and difficulties.

Who has counselling?

Anyone can have counselling, you don’t have to be in a crisis to benefit from the outcomes of therapy. People seek counselling for many different reasons such as:​​

  • Infertility

  • Low self-esteem

  • Loneliness

Long term or short term therapy?

I offer open-ended therapy, which has no time limit meaning you can have as many on going sessions, as you feel you need. I also offer short-term counselling (6-12 sessions) which can be affective in dealing with other various or immediate difficulties such as anxiety or stress, work issues, redundancy, relationship breakdown or loss.

How do I work?

I see clients weekly on the same day, at the same time and for 50 minutes. I work within a confidential, non-judgemental and friendly space.

What does it cost?

I charge £40 per 50 minute session for both face to face counselling and for a 50 minute walking therapy session. I accept BACS or cash for payment.

My approach?

I use a Psychodynamic model in my work with clients. I believe that past experiences can influence and manifest in our present difficulties. It does not mean that you did not have a 'good' childhood. Yet sometimes as children we don't always get what we need to grow into confident and happy adults. 

 

I essentially work in the here and now with my clients and their difficulties. I will listen to your personal story, your thoughts and feelings. I will also give you the space you need to express them and feel heard. I work at your pace and alongside you, offering you insight, support, and an objective mind in tackling your difficulties.

 

My role is to help empower you to make positive choices and changes that are right for you. As well as developing your self-awareness and insight, in relation to yourself and the relationships you have with others. 

My professional qualifications?

I am a qualified and registered member of the BACP. I follow their guidelines for good practice and I have the appropriate insurance to practice safely.

My qualifications are:

  • Advanced diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (The Counselling Foundation).

  • Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (The Counselling Foundation).

  • Certificate in Counselling Skills.
